كما يبدو هناك حالة من الغموض حول مستقبل جناح الفريق الأول لكرة القدم بنادي توتنهام، جاريث بيل، والتي تنتهي إعارته من ريال مدريد مع نهاية الموسم الجاري.

ويعاني بيل من عدم المشاركة المستمرة مع المدير الفني، جوزيه مورينيو، في توتنهام، ومن غير المتوقع أن يغير البرتغالي رأيه في الفترة المقبلة بشأن الويلزي الدولي، لأن الأخير لا يتمتع بقدرات بدنية جيدة.

وعلق وكيل بيل الحالي، جوناثان بارنيت، عن وضع اللاعب في توتنهام، وقال في تصريحات نقلتها صحيفة “آس” الإسبانية: “بيل فاز بألقاب خارج بريطانيا العظمى (ريال مدريد) أكثر من أي لاعب آخر هنا في التاريخ”.

وتابع: “لقد قدم أداءً مميزًا على مدار السنوات الماضية وجنى الكثير من الأموال التي تكفيه لبقية حياته، مسيرته تقترب من النهاية، اسأل مورينيو لماذا لا يشارك مع توتنهام”.

وأضاف: “جاريث يستحق المزيد من الاحترام لما فعله في مسيرته خلال السنوات السابقة”.

وكان مورينيو قد خرج وصرح عبر الإعلام ملمحًا أن وضع بيل لن يتغير، وقال: “يمكن للمدربين في بعض الأحيان اتخاذ قرارات خاطئة، نحن جميعًا نفعل ذلك في وتقت ما، ولكن لا أحد منا مجنون، عندما يكون اللاعب في مستواه الفني سيلعب من أجل مساعدة الفريق، لا يوجد مدرب لا يدفع بلاعب جاهز وقادر على العطاء”.

According to Express and Star, West Brom are battling Bristol City for the signing of Southampton striker Charlie Austin as support for Kenneth Zohore.

What’s the word?

It appears that Baggies boss Slaven Bilic is desperate to add another striker before Thursday’s 5pm deadline having brought in one new attacker already whilst also chasing Albian Ajeti last week.

The Croatian has lost the prolific exploits of Dwight Gayle who scored 24 goals in 41 games last season whilst West Brom have also sold Jay Rodriguez and Salomon Rondon this summer, meaning they lack considerable depth in attack.

Austin has been limited in terms of game time at Southampton and will be looking at even less opportunity with the arrival of striker Che Adams. The 6 foot 2 striker made just 11 starts in the Premier League last term.

Exactly what they need

This may be a mark of desperation from Bilic but West Brom’s move for Austin might be more calculated than first thought.

The veteran goalscorer has a very accomplished record at this level of football – in 129 Championship appearances, Austin has netted 66 goals.

This sort of proven record and experience is exactly what the Baggies need with a serious lack of options up top as the Championship season has already gotten underway.

Zohore has some experience in the second tier of English football having scored 21 goals in 54 starts for Cardiff over the course of two seasons but he can’t take all of the burden by himself.

Hal Robson-Kanu is the only other striker at the club – and he’s hardly got the best return having scored just nine times in the last three seasons.

Austin was outstanding in his last full season in the Championship at QPR in the 2013/14 season. He scored 19 goals in 34 appearances, averaging a rating of 7.20 per game.

The 30-year-old managed a whole shot more per game on average in that season at 3.6 than Zohore did in his last outing in this very division.

He also drew more fouls at 1.5 per game compared to the former Denmark under-21 international’s 1.1 per game, showing his capability in holding the ball up.

This move makes sense late in the window and if he stays fit, could be a very shrewd move on Bilic’s behalf, especially if they beat Bristol City to his signature who could well be one of their playoff rivals towards the end of the season.

The two sides met six months after the 6-2 clash and Villa failed to capitalise on the magic of the FA Cup.

The home fans packed out Villa Park in hope of advancing to the sixth round of the competition but an own goal and Cliff Jones’ strike ensured Spurs came out the tie as worthy winners.

Their first win away to Spurs since 1934. Villa remained a resilient outfit in the year of England’s World Cup success and came out as deserved winners.

The likes of Jimmy Greaves and Terry Venables were not enough to stop Villa from collecting all three points courtesy of a Lew Chatterley goal.

A League Cup final meeting between the two sides was narrowly claimed by Tottenham.

Martin Chivers netted in the 78th minute to give Spurs the lead and scored his second of the day eight minutes from time to write himself into the history books at Wembley.

Spurs suffered a humiliating defeat to Villa in 1980 and it was the Clarets’ third successive win against their opponents.

The first draw between the two sides since 1993 came courtesy of a late Dwight Yorke goal for Villa.

Ramon Vega originally opened the scoring for Spurs but an 81st-minute equaliser from Yorke meant they shared the points. Paul McVeigh made his debut for Tottenham after joining the club as a trainee.

Some West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that the club hope to have a breakthrough in Manuel Lanzini’s contract negotiations within the next two weeks.

The Argentina international has less than 12 months remaining on his current deal, which sees him earns a wage of £35k-a-week, and the Hammers are hoping to find a breakthrough in negotiations with the attacking midfielder in the next fortnight.

The Irons have a two-year extension option with Lanzini, but want to tie the 26-year-old down to a deal for the forseeable future.

West Ham’s No.10 reportedly wants to see his weekly wages at least doubled if he is to sign a new long-term contract.

The east Londoners had planned to tie Lanzini down to a new five-year deal last summer before the attacker suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament in the build up to the World Cup, but the club are now hoping to resurrect contract talks and are hopeful of a breakthrough.

All summer, the talk was about how Wilfried Zaha was going to make his Crystal Palace escape for a second time, and finally show the world he can perform on the biggest stage. Instead, the transfer window has come and gone, and the Ivory Coast international is left twiddling his thumbs at Selhurst Park after failing to secure a move away.

The 26-year-old came off the bench for Palace’s first Premier League game of the season, before featuring from the start in their 1-0 loss to newly-promoted Sheffield United. So it’s fair to say things haven’t quite gone to plan for Zaha this summer. But on Saturday, the Ivorian comes up against his former club Manchester United, and with it, comes a real source of motivation to bring his best.

Reports had suggested that one of the reasons why the forward didn’t get the move he wanted was because of United’s sell-on clause from the time the Red Devils sold him back to Palace. It meant Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side would take a significant cut of the earnings, and understandably led to the Eagles demanding an extortionate amount of money that Arsenal could not afford.

So, Zaha could well have a feeling of resentment to his former employers over the role they played in his future this summer.

Indeed, the 5 foot 11 star’s very desire to prove himself again comes from his failings at Old Trafford. Zaha has admitted he felt like he never got a legitimate chance at the club, and it has fuelled him to test himself out at the highest level once more.

On Saturday afternoon, the Ivorian has all the pent-up anger in the world to unleash on United, and it is imperative Solskjaer’s side are aware of that.

Having broken into the Manchester United first-team in the 2015/2016 campaign under Louis van Gaal, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has failed to really kick on at Old Trafford.

The left-back finished the season with ten senior appearances across all competitions, and won the club’s U21 Player of the Year award too. His fine form earned him a new long-term contract with the club, but since then, it has all been downhill for the 22-year-old.

The former England U20 international has endured numerous loan spells at different clubs, and United have now confirmed Borthwick-Jackson will spend this season at League One side Tranmere Rovers.

After hearing the update on the defender, United fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the matter.

Many supporters of the Manchester side expressed their surprise at how Borthwick-Jackson’s career had fallen off, and pointed back to his days in the first-team.

Some Red Devils fans however, felt he could still do a decent job at left-back for the side, and questioned why they simply didn’t give him a chance to do so.
