West Ham United must start Marko Arnautovic when they face Fulham this weekend.

The Hammers have not tasted victory in any of their previous five games, though they did hold Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium on February 4th.

On the chalkboard

Arnautovic has enjoyed some truly excellent form this season, scoring a total of seven goals in 18 appearances in the Premier League.

He has, however, failed to score in his last three outings since a flirtation with a transfer to China.

Manuel Pellegrini gave the Austria international the chance to start against Wolves but he struggled before picking up an injury that ruled him out of the clash with Liverpool.

Following that 1-1 draw, Arnautovic played just 22 minutes against Crystal Palace.

Now, then, is the time for West Ham to trust again and give the striker the chance to play from the outset against Fulham.

Indeed, the Irons have lost just twice in the Premier League this season when Arnautovic has scored – to Arsenal and AFC Bournemouth.

The Irons are currently 10th in the table but they appear somewhat rudderless. They are not in danger of relegation but they are also six points behind Nuno Espirito Santo’s impressive Wolves, who sit seventh and occupy the final Europa League qualification spot.

Having Arnautovic back in the team would go a long way to reigniting a fire under Pellegrini’s men.

Time to prove worth

Football FanCast reported earlier this month that Arnautovic and West Ham have agreed on one specific compromise in the striker’s new contract. The deal includes a clause that will allow the 29-year-old to leave if a bid worth £45m is tabled in the summer.

However, if he is to be the subject of any bids in the summer, he is going to have to prove his worth between now and the end of the season.

It could be a win-win for the Hammers. They could bring Arnautovic back into the fold, he could score the goals to propel the club up the table, and then there could be a major influx of cash for Pellegrini to spend in the summer.

Starting the Austrian against Fulham could be the start of a long-term strategy and would go a long way to ensuring the Irons pick up three vital points.

Indeed, Fulham are 19th and have conceded a total of 58 goals, 10 more than rock-bottom Huddersfield Town.

Arnautovic will surely be licking his lips.

وواصل: “كان عليه أن ينتظر بعد الانتهاء من البطولة الإفريقية”.

استكمل: “مواجهة الرجاء ستكون مختلفة، المنافس فريق قوي وأكبر دليل أنه وصل لنصف نهائي البطولة”.

اختتم: “جمهور الزمالك يستحق أن يشعر بالسعادة وذلك بتحقيق لقب البطولة، أتمنى أن يحدث ذلك”.

يذكر أن الزمالك سيواجه الرجاء البيضاوي المغربي في نصف نهائي دوري أبطال إفريقيا، في شهر أكتوبر المقبل.

There has been a cautious welcome from Scottish football fans to a report suggesting foreign referees could soon be in charge of Scottish matches.

According to a report in The Daily Record, that notion is being pushed strongly by Celtic after a meeting of Premiership clubs and the SFA to discuss the current issues with referees and discipline.

In 2010, during a strike called by referees, match officials were called in from Israel and Luxembourg before the problems were resolved.

This season there has been an unprecedented focus on refereeing decisions with a red card rescinded against Alfredo Morelos on the opening weekend of the season kicking off the mayhem.

A new Compliance Officer, Clare Whyte, at the SFA has complicated the issues through mixed messages and inconsistencies being sent out almost on a weekly basis.

It remains unclear in what circumstances the Compliance Officer can overrule decisions witnessed by match officials with almost all top flight clubs issuing statements of concern at some stage this season.

Celtic are reportedly keen to play a key role in drawing up recommendations for reforms to the current refereeing setup in Scotland, backing a proposal to recruit officials from other countries – similar ideas have already been floated by manager Brendan Rodgers and Tom Boyd.

The mechanics and costs of bringing in foreign referees has still to be assessed. Whether they’d get co-operation from Scottish assistants remains to be seen but the principle seems to be one that has support among fans of many clubs throughout Scotland.

As if things weren’t already problematic enough for Chelsea, their fortunes turned for the worse when FIFA banned them from transfer dealings for the next two transfer windows. It effectively means that Chelsea won’t be able to introduce new players anytime soon, hampering their hopes of boosting their squad after the season.

Though an appeal could help to delay the ban, the wider context still remains, whilst perhaps FIFA may move to judge an appeal quicker than most expect them to.

This ban can have a ripple effect in their own squad, especially with Eden Hazard looking to complete his dream move to Real Madrid soon. While the Blues can sell players, letting go of Hazard without an appropriate replacement will be suicide.

Management needs to work hard to convince him to stay for at least one more season. While Christian Pulisic’s transfer won’t be affected by the ban, Chelsea cannot rely on the youngster to fill Hazard’s shoes.

Not only Hazard, but they’ll also need to convince Callum Hudson-Odoi to stay. N’Golo Kante could also become frustrated to the point of no return unless played to his strengths, while the Blues need to find upgrades to Marcus Alonso and David Luiz. If not anything else, this ban will now test the resolve and patience of their players.

It’s only natural – why would the best in the world want to stay if their ambitions aren’t being matched by new signings?

Chelsea will find it difficult to challenge for top titles with this squad, and no top manager would want to replace Sarri without the option to sign players. The next few months are key to Chelsea’s immediate future, as certain top stars can mutiny and force their way out or stay and get them out of this difficult situation.

Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was revealed that Wilfried Zaha had been nominated for the Premier League ‘Player of the Month’ award for his performances throughout the month of February.

The Ivory Coast international hit three goals in his three games last month, netting the equaliser against West Ham before going on to smash in a match-winning double against Leicester at the King Power Stadium.

This form, in addition to his goal against Southampton at the end of January, saw Zaha score in three consecutive games for the first time in his career, and also helped the Eagles move away from the drop zone.

Alongside the 26-year-old in the nominees are Manchester United duo Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw, Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk, Burnley forward Ashley Barnes and Newcastle youngster Sean Longstaff.

The news has come as a shock to some given the fact that Jeffrey Schlupp won the Eagles’ Player of the Month award, but let’s take a look at how the Palace fans reacted to the news on Twitter anyway…

Nottingham Forest manager Martin O’Neill has admitted, via The Nottingham Post, he has been surprised by the speed of loanee Sam Byram’s recovery from injury, as the 25-year-old looks more and more likely to feature before the end of the season.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Reds signed the right-back on a season-long temporary deal from West Ham United during the summer transfer window, but he made just three appearances in all competitions for them before suffering serious knee ligament damage in August.

The defender has been out since and during his pre-match Hull City press conference, as per The Nottingham Post, O’Neill admitted didn’t expect to see him action before the end of the campaign: “He is not as far away as I thought he would be, when I first came into the club.

“I thought we might not see him at all this season, but he is doing really well.

“It would be great for us, to have him back. The lad has been afflicted with some really bad injuries.”

Byram is now back training with the first-team squad, and he will be hoping to get some minutes under his belt for the U23s in order to boost his match fitness.

Useful return?

He certainly would be.

Forest haven’t had the chance to see the best of Byram yet, and he may well have one final opportunity to try and secure a permanent move to The City Ground next season in the last couple of weeks of the campaign unless he suffers any setbacks.

وأضاف: “اليوم كان قريبًا من إحراز هدفًا بـ رأسية رائعة، لقد استحق انّ يسجل هدفًا، والأهداف ستأتي، لقد تحرك بشكل جيد، وقدم أداءً طيبًا”.
