Newcastle fans hammer Valentino Lazaro

Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to hammer Valentino Lazaro for his performance against Crystal Palace.

The 28-cap Austria international was making just his third Premier League appearance for the Magpies since arriving on loan from Inter Milan in January.

Lazaro’s last outing before Saturday’s loss came in the 4-0 defeat to Arsenal, where he was nut-megged by Bukayo Saka for Nicolas Pepe’s goal – things didn’t get much better in his next outing for the Tynesiders.

You can find more on this and other stories via the Newcastle United News page.

The former RB Salzburg man struggled up against Wilfried Zaha, allowing the Ivorian to complete four dribbles while he also won three freekicks throughout the game – Lazaro was also dismissed in the 94th minute for pulling the forward down when he was through on goal.

However, the 23-year-old Newcastle man did make two key passes and completed one dribble, so he wasn’t as bad from an attacking perspective.

Despite that, his performance in general seems to have been below-par if these Newcastle fans are concerned…

To kick off the reaction, @NUFCRUMOURS went as far as saying that they never want to see Lazaro in a Newcastle shirt ever again – harsh, to say the least.

Then, Jay echoed this thought by saying that he never wants to see the Austrian play for the club again.

Elsewhere, Mark said that it must be soul destroying for academy players to see the likes of Lazaro come in and get a start, before adding that the best thing he’s done since signing is get himself sent off, so fans don’t have to watch his inept defending for a few weeks – ouch.

Luca then said that he thinks the January signing seems insecure and out of shape.

Lastly, the hate for Lazaro continued.

@scott_nufc said that the on-loan Inter Milan player doesn’t have the heart for it.

@onmyshoe then simply said that the Graz-born man is out of his depth.

Is life under Ashley really that bad? Maybe this quiz will change your minds, Newcastle fans…

Norwich City: Chris Sutton showers the team with huge praise on podcast

Chris Sutton and Alistair Bruce-Ball were once again taking calls from fans across England and made some bold statements on Norwich City who are currently not enjoying their stay in the top-flight.

The Canaries have been impressive in their exciting and aggressive style of play – beating Manchester City, after all – but, at the moment, they are sitting rock bottom in the Premier League and relegation back to the Championship is a very real thought.

Still, that doesn’t really matter to Sutton, who believes they are simply the best ever team we’ve seen to be at the very bottom of the table.

Here’s what he said on BBC’s 5 Live 606 podcast (29/2/2020) when talking to one of the fans who were on the call: “They’re the best ever team who’ve been bottom of the Premier League. Brilliant team. They are really good and they haven’t lost confidence, they’re playing with belief, they’re bottom of the table. How many times have we seen Premier League teams do that? Norwich are the best ever team at the bottom of the table because of the courage and the way they play football and the belief.”

While the Canaries would have to drastically change the sort of form that’s seen them end up in this position, they are six points away from safety and there are still ten games to be played until the end of the 2019/20 Premier League season, so it’s not completely out of the question.

Norwich fans, what do you think about Sutton’s glowing verdict on your team? Do you think you can escape the relegation zone? Let us know down in the comments below!

Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp honest on club’s place in history

Speaking after Liverpool’s defeat to Watford on Saturday, Jurgen Klopp admitted that his side can’t be considered the best Premier League team ever.

What did he say?

The Reds headed into the clash at Vicarage Road unbeaten in the Premier League, with the tag of ‘Invincibles’ firmly in their sights.

However, Watford stunned them with a 3-0 triumph, and Klopp revealed that his team’s performance simply wasn’t good enough.

He said (as quoted by The Daily Mail): “No (we didn’t see this result coming) it’s normal. A lot of people will say that but congratulations, I didn’t. The boys have already so many records and you cannot get a record because you want it – the record is the result of the performance and we didn’t perform today.

“We can’t be the best ever Premier League team because tonight we just weren’t good enough. Maybe we can set another record in the future.”

Still history-makers

Make no mistake about it, whilst Liverpool’s chances of going unbeaten ended in miserable fashion, their quite ridiculous feats this year in the Premier League is still going to be the stuff of legend.

The Reds have simply been in exhilarating form all year, and it has been quite staggering to see them continue to defy logic by churning out victory after victory. It takes an elite mentality for a team to even go on the kind of run the Merseyside club went on, and you wouldn’t put it past them from simply winning every game from here on out.

The ‘Invincibles’ label might have eluded them, but Liverpool are still history-makers.

Leeds United: Fans react to video of outstanding Jay-Roy Grot goal

Loads of Leeds United fans have been reacting to footage of a stunning goal scored by Jay-Roy Grot at the weekend.

The 21-year-old signed for the club when Thomas Christiansen was in charge, joining from NEC Nijmegen for £1.5 million in 2017 (Wakefield Express). But he is currently spending time back in the Netherlands on loan at Vitesse Arnhem.

His team took on FC Twente on Saturday and Grot scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory, and what an effort it was. He picked up the ball in his own half and beat one opposition player before cutting inside onto his right foot and drifting past another, going on to slot calmly past the goalkeeper (@jayroy_grot).

Grot has failed to make any sort of impact at Elland Road so far, scoring just one goal in 22 appearances for the West Yorkshire outfit. He has since been on loan at VVV-Venlo where he netted six in 34, whilst his goal against Twente was just his second in 25 appearances for Vitesse (Transfermarkt).

However, despite his poor goal scoring ratio, some Leeds fans have responded to the video of his brilliant solo effort by suggesting that he could still have a future with the club. Indeed one even suggested that Marcelo Bielsa could “work wonders” with the Dutch under-21 international, whilst another claimed he “could be fabulous” under the Argentine.

Here is what some had to say…

Key detail of Rangers contract for Leon King revealed

Rangers tied down youngster Leon King to a new contract earlier this month, and Football Insider have revealed it is one of the best deals the club has given to a young player.

What’s the news?

The Gers are believed to have been generous in their approach to the player, offering King a “considerable” six-figure deal to ensure he prolonged his stay at Ibrox, and the contract was duly agreed.

Watch Rangers Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

King had rejected Rangers’ first offer amid interest from elsewhere. That, combined with Steve Gerrard rating the 16-year-old, likely contributed to the increased terms, as the Glasgow outfit attempted to rule out a repeat of what happened with Billy Gilmour.

Keeping key assets

Rangers have had a lot of success with young players this season, though not many have come through the academy system like King is currently.

Sheyi Ojo and Ryan Kent have had success since arriving in the summer with 36 and 31 appearances to boast of, and that should encourage the youngster, as he will know that displaying the right attitude and ability to match should make him a part of Gerrard’s first-team plans.

After all, it hasn’t taken Gilmour too long to persuade Frank Lampard of his ability at Chelsea, with the 18-year-old making an impressive start to life at the Blues with a man of the match display against Everton on his Premier League debut.

From Jay-Z to Tom Hanks: Do you know which clubs these famous celebrities support?

The Scot departed Rangers without making an appearance as he couldn’t turn down the lure of the Londoners, and tying down King to a long-term contract should prevent him following suit.

The defender may come to a point where he finds he is a big fish in a small pond and wants to move on, but at least that potential outcome would allow the Gers to get something out of him on the pitch. This contract has helped Gerrard’s side swerve a potential repeat of their Gilmour heartbreak.

Meanwhile, Rangers fans have been reacting to a notable display from the defeat to Bayer Leverkusen…

Leeds need to get rid of Barry Douglas

Leeds United have a lot of work to do over the summer.

It seems as though the Whites are headed to the Premier League, be that by default or by merit, and if they do end up in the top-flight they’ll have a bit of a rebuild on their hands as they have to make the necessary upgrades to stay competitive in the top-flight.

However, it’s not just bringing players in that Leeds need to think about, it’s getting rid as well.

Indeed, the Whites have done a commendable job when it comes to shifting their deadwood in recent years with the likes of Yosuke Ideguchi, Caleb Ekuban, Vurnon Anita and Hadi Sacko all departing the club.

However, they need to keep up their good work by shifting Barry Douglas.

It’s sad to say it, but the stats don’t lie and Douglas quite simply isn’t up to the task of being a first-teamer at Elland Road.

He’s started just four games this season, and despite once crafting 15 assists in a single Championship season, he’s not set up a single goal this term.

In fact, he’s only averaging 0.5 key passes per game, which is way down on the 1.4 he was averaging last season and the 1.8 he was putting up the year prior to that.

The fact of the matter is that it seems Douglas is over the hill, and with United having plenty of options at left-back in the shape of Stuart Dallas, Ezgjan Alioski and Leif Davis, he just isn’t needed any more.

11 appearances all season indicates that this is a reserve player earning a first-team wage, after all, Capology had him down as United’s eighth-highest paid player at the start of the season.

United should just cut all ties with the £2.25m-rated man, even if they have to take a loss on him.

Liverpool fans rave over van Dijk’s tweet to Jamie Carragher

In the absence of regular football, it is no surprise that Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk got plenty of traction on his Twitter Q&A on Tuesday evening.

The Netherlands international invited the Twitter-sphere to ask questions about his career, and plenty of fans were eager to get involved.

However, it was not just supporters who sent questions in his direction.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher also got in on the act with a tongue-in-cheek question designed to coax one obvious answer out of van Dijk.

But he didn’t take the bait and instead he poked fun at the current Sky Sports pundit, suggesting that former Red Sami Hyypia is the player who he’s based his game on.

Unsurprisingly, the Twitter interaction between two legendary figures caused quite the frenzy amongst the club’s supporters.

Indeed, van Dijk’s tweet was hailed as “genius” by one fan, while others were simply left in stitches.

Here’s what the Liverpool fans had to say in response to the tweet…

Liverpool: Fans react to Ian Doyle tweet about Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane is currently one of the best footballers on the planet.

Last year’s Ballon d’Or rankings say as much, anyway – he finished in fourth place behind Lionel Messi, Virgil van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo – and he has shown how important he is once again this campaign. All in all, he has 18 goals and 12 assists in 38 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool.

Recently, though, there have been reports that he could leave the club, with Real Madrid said to be interested in taking him to Spain. Now, Liverpool Echo reporter Ian Doyle has written an article on the increasing rumours of him leaving, indicating that if he wants to win the Ballon d’Or he may need to leave the club.

The journalist shared the piece of Twitter, and it has led to the club’s supporters reacting in their droves. You can see some of the best comments from the social media platform below.

Man United’s potential 2020/21 XI based on recent speculation

With the Premier League amid an impromptu hiatus, perhaps it’s unsurprising that the transfer rumours have started early this year, with Manchester United in the thick of it.

Of course, any rumours always need to be taken with a pinch of salt, especially at a time when the football media is desperate for stories to cover, but if recent claims prove true Manchester United’s starting XI could be nothing short of genuinely incredible by the time 2020/21 rolls around.

Here’s a quick rundown of how the Red Devils could look based on current speculation…

Hilariously obscure Premier League players – Can you name them all?

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

Goalkeeper – David De Gea: No changes here. Dean Henderson has been impressing on loan at Sheffield United with the second-most clean sheets of any Premier League goalkeeper, but it would surely take a massive offer for the Red Devils to part with De Gea while there’s still three years left on his contract.

Right-Back – Aaron Wan-Bissaka: A strong first season from the former Crystal Palace man in which he’s averaged 3.8 tackles per game in the Premier League suggests he’ll be first-choice next term as well. United have been linked with PSG’s Thomas Meunier, but the 28-year-old could be more of a squad option considering Wan-Bissaka’s done so little wrong.

Right Centre-Back – Matthijs De Ligt: The Daily Star have claimed Manchester United are considering a stunning swoop for De Ligt that would see Paul Pogba go in the other direction to Juventus. The Red Devils were keen on the Dutch defender last summer until he joined Juve in a £67.5m deal, but he’s struggled to impress with an average Whoscored rating of 6.72 in Serie A.

Aged 20, the former Ajax man would still be a wise long-term investment for any top club and certainly provide Harry Maguire with a top-quality partner, something The Star claim Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined to find this summer. It’s worth noting, however, that De Ligt’s father-in-law has been quick to quash the rumours.

Left Centre-Back – Harry Maguire: Much like Wan-Bissaka, Maguire has adapted to life at Old Trafford with impressive ease, even taking up the captain’s armband. The England international scored a heroic header in the most recent Manchester Derby and looks like he’ll be a cornerstone of the first team for some time.

Left-Back – Luke Shaw: The Sun claim Solskjaer has been so impressed by Brandon Williams’ development this season that United won’t be on the lookout for another left-back this summer. It’s still early days for the 19-year-old though, so we’re expecting Luke Shaw to remain first choice – at least at the start of the campaign.

Holding Midfield – Saul Niguez: The Star have sensationally reported that United are confident of landing Atletico Madrid’s Niguez this summer in an incredible club-record £135m deal. That might seem like a lot of money to pay for someone who we’ve put in holding midfield but in many ways, that’s the beauty of the Spain international – this season alone he’s played in five different positions, and he seems uniquely adaptable to the demands of whatever team he’s in.

It’s alleged Solskjaer sees the 25-year-old as a potential replacement for Pogba who can operate alongside Bruno Fernandes in midfield, but we’ve dropped him back a little bit to make room for another alleged United incoming.

Central Midfield – Bruno Fernandes: Having already bagged three goals and four assists in his first nine outings for United, it’s safe to assume January signing Fernandes won’t be going anywhere next season. He’s already proving to be a vital cog in Solskjaer’s side and it would be a complete shock to see him bumped down the pecking order next season.

Central Midfield – Jack Grealish: The Aston Villa signing arrives to complete a midfield a la Pep Guardiola, with two roaming playmakers in front of a trusted and tenacious anchorman. Despite once again landing himself in hot water after bizarrely ignoring his own advice about self-isolation, The Daily Mail claim United are still expected to land the Englishman in a deal worth up to £80m.

A fine season for Grealish has seen him reach the League Cup final for Villa and contribute to 13 Premier League goals, despite his side languishing in the relegation zone. He’s certainly got the ability to make the step up to a top club, although there are some question marks over his attitude.

Right Wing – Jadon Sancho: According to Mirror Football, with Liverpool excluding themselves from the race, Manchester United and Chelsea will go head-to-head for the services of Jadon Sancho this summer. The 20-year-old is a frightening prospect, with 17 goals and 19 assists this season alone, and offers a solution to the right wing conundrum that has plagued United this season.

Like De Ligt, he represents another wise long-term investment for a top club. However, Mirror Football also claim United aren’t prepared to match Dortmund’s £100m asking price, so it seems some haggling may have to take place before this deal gets over the line.

Left Wing – Marcus Rashford: We often think of Rashford as the centre-piece in United’s attack but he’s actually made more appearances as a wide forward this season according to Transfermarkt, producing a prolific 15 goals and 4 assists in 19 outings from the left. It’s perhaps not Rashford’s ideal position long-term, but placing him there again next season will allow for another key addition up front.

Striker – Harry Kane: Manchester Evening News have suggested a United swoop for Kane remains unlikely but following on from his admission that he may eventually leave Spurs if there are no clear signs of progress, Rio Ferdinand has defiantly claimed that the Red Devils will be in for the Tottenham star, insisting he’s “perfect” for them.

Daniel Levy is notorious for refusing to do business with Premier League rivals, but Kane would no doubt be a fantastic addition to the Old Trafford ranks as arguably the best striker in the world. Even this season, which has been plagued by injuries and Spurs’ wayward form, the England captain has netted 17 times in 25 games.

The final XI

Meanwhile, Paul Pogba’s transfer priority has been revealed.

Crystal Palace: Fans react as Reece Oxford is linked to the club

English defender Reece Oxford is rumoured to be heading back to English football, with reports suggesting Crystal Palace are interested and a lot of their fanbase are reacting to the transfer rumour.

According to the Mirror, the former West Ham player will be available for around £2 million and a host of EFL clubs are interested in the defender as well as the Eagles.

The centre-back looked to be a player for the future at the Hammers when he made his debut in the Premier League against Arsenal at the age of 16, per Transfermarkt. Now at 21 years-old, he has already moved from the Premier League to Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach and moved again as he is now is at fellow German side Augsburg, but it has not gone as well as he would have hoped as he has only made eight appearances this season.

You could argue that signing the player could be a risk for the South London side, however for such a cheap price, it could turn out to be a risk worth taking especially considering he is still very young. With their centre-backs all over 30, per WhoScored, a youthful defender with some potential could be exactly what the club need for their future.

Here is what fans had to say about the news:

Just want me need another CDM/CB 🙃
