West Ham United are now eyeing a January move for Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller, who is also being targeted by the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United.
West Ham risk being cut adrift if their form doesn’t start to improve soon, with Nuno Espirito Santo so far being unable to instigate a major turnaround in results, and they have another tough test on the horizon against Newcastle United later today.
The 2-1 loss against Leeds United last time out could prove to be a real six-pointer at the end of the season, and the Hammers looked particularly weak in midfield, with Andy Irving and Tomas Soucek both struggling.
Both midfielders lost the majority of the duels they contested, with Irving winning just one of five, while they also failed to create a big chance throughout the match, which suggests Nuno may need to strengthen his options in the middle of the park this January.
The need to bring in a new midfielder is also exacerbated by Guido Rodriguez not being part of Nuno’s plans, with the midfielder being benched for the majority of the campaign, having seemingly failed to impress the manager.
West Ham eyeing move for Angelo Stiller
According to a report from Fussball Europa (via Sport WItness), West Ham are now eyeing a January move for Stuttgart midfielder Stiller, who could be brought in to replace Rodriguez, if they are able to move the 31-year-old on.
The £75k-a-week midfielder wants to leave this winter, and the Hammers are eager to get him off the books, with the German maestro being targeted as a direct replacement.
David Sullivan & co clearly mean business, given that the 24-year-old is held in very high regard, with the likes of Man United and Real Madrid also being named as potential suitors.
Once lauded as “special” by Sky Sports’ Dougie Critchley, the central midfielder has been tipped to go on and play for a big club by Ben Mattinson, given his ability to dictate the tempo.
As such, it is somewhat difficult to envisage West Ham competing for the Germany international in January if they don’t claw themselves out of relegation trouble beforehand, but it would be a major statement of intent if they were able to get a deal done.
West Ham hold discussions to sign Brazil duo with 35 goals between them this year
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side need an injection of attacking quality.
ByEmilio Galantini Oct 30, 2025
The Stuttgart star is particularly impressive at setting up chances for his teammates, placing in the 98th percentile for assists per 90 over the past year, having averaged 0.30.
Stiller could be a real difference-maker in the Hammers’ quest to avoid relegation, but results must start improving soon if they are to tempt him into a move, starting against Newcastle today.

Manchester Originals miss chance to close gap on table-toppers as they slump to 16-run loss

Ellyse Perry struck an unbeaten 55•Getty Images
Manchester Originals missed the chance to take a big leap towards qualifying for The Hundred Eliminator next Saturday after falling to a 16-run defeat to lowly Birmingham Phoenix at Emirates Old Trafford and slipping out of the top three. The Originals, who have never progressed beyond the group phase of the women’s competition, looked strong favourites after restricting the visitors to 111 for 3 but Aussie seamer Megan Schutt (3 for 14) spearheaded an inspired performance with the ball after Ellyse Perry’s second successive half-century and a sparky knock from Sterre Kalis had given them something to defend. Both Originals openers were dismissed for ducks, Kathyrn Bryce run out by Emma Lamb and Beth Mooney falling to a superb running catch by Marie Kelly off Schutt, before Em Arlott snared Alice Monaghan to leave the hosts 14 for 3.That became 14 for 4 two balls later when 19-year-old off-spinner Phoebe Brett had Amelia Kerr caught at mid-on by Arlott. Deandra Dottin and Seren Smale steadied the ship somewhat before Hannah Baker snared the former, caught at long-off as she tried to up the ante.Smale dug deep for her 34-ball 29, eventually caught at short fine-leg by Brett to give Schutt her third wicket, and Lauren Filer struck three boundaries in her unbeaten 19, but the Originals were eventually dismissed for 95 from the final ball of their innings.Earlier, Phoenix skipper Perry had chosen to bat after winning the toss but her team were soon in trouble, Georgia Voll falling for a four-ball duck after picking out Monaghan at deep square-leg off Mahika Gaur. The Originals’ high-class bowling attack was relentless, the visitors crawling to 15 in 24 balls when Lamb offered a simple chance to Dottin off Sophie Ecclestone before Amy Jones succumbed to Dottin to leave the score 17 for 3.Perry (55 not out from 48) and Kalis mounted a rescue operation, the Aussie legend reaching her half-century by dispatching Bryce for six over mid-wicket and Kalis unbeaten on 43 from 39 when the innings concluded on 111 for 3.It didn’t look like being enough against an Originals side which had won their three previous matches but Phoenix prevailed to move up to seventh in the table and push their opponents down to fourth, behind London Spirit on net run rate. The Originals now face a crucial final group match against Northern Superchargers on Tuesday, with the Spirit visiting Oval Invincibles tomorrow.Kalis, the Meerkat Match Hero, said: “It was obviously a tough start; the pitch was doing quite a bit. When I got in, it was a tough situation because we’d lost some early wickets. But Perry and I rebuilt, and I thought it was a good score on that pitch. It was definitely the kind of surface where, once you got in, it became a bit easier to score.”In the end, it was a brilliant win. We had to play really good cricket to defend a low-ish total, and we knew early wickets were going to be key and we got them. Obviously it’s been a bit of a tough campaign for us but what we can do now is play our best cricket and today, we showed what kind of team we are. It was a brilliant effort.”

Celtic are in the market for a new manager and look set to ramp up their search over the international break, albeit they also seem to be hunting for January reinforcements.
Following Brendan Rodgers’ departure, the Bhoys have placed Martin O’Neill in interim charge, and his brief spell has only acted to enhance his reputation among supporters after his first time in the dugout at Parkhead.
The 73-year-old kicked off his second tenure with victories over Falkirk and Rangers before a defeat to FC Midtjylland put the cat among the pigeons regarding Celtic’s attempts to get out of the Europa League league phase.
Callum Osmand’s hamstring injury sustained against the Danish outfit only compounded matters, given he is likely to be on the sidelines for a lengthy period.
However, Celtic returned to winning ways with a convincing 4-0 victory over Kilmarnock on Sunday afternoon, with his striking counterpart Johnny Kenny stepping up to the mantle again with a fifth goal in 11 appearances this season.
Speaking after the match, O’Neill made it clear that he expects to be made aware of whether the Hoops are set to imminently appoint a new manager over the international break amid speculation that he could stay on until the end of the season.
He said: “I have to go back down to London again, I’m going to go into a darkened room and come out on Thursday and say, ‘has this really happened’. So I should imagine at some stage or another during the course of the next week, whether it be tomorrow, whether it be Saturday or Sunday of next week, that somebody will let me know what’s happening.”
For now, Celtic will take some time to reflect on a successful recent upturn in form, though they already appear to be firmly in the market for January reinforcements regardless of who is in the dugout.
Celtic set to move for cut-price Stefan Ortega in January
According to the Star on Sunday (print edition, 09/11/2025), Celtic are set to move for Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega in January and could land the 33-year-old for a bargain fee of £500,000.
Providing an explanation, he is out of contract at the end of the season and has fallen behind Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford in the pecking order, hence why the stopper may be available for a price that doesn’t exactly reflect his market value.

Ultimately, Ortega has become something of a cult hero at the Etihad Stadium since his move to England from Arminia Bielefeld. However, he may fancy a shot at being an outright number one while he is still in his prime as a goalkeeper.
Celtic have a new boss on their shortlist to succeed Martin O'Neill
Kasper Schmeichel is out of contract at Celtic next summer, though it remains to be seen whether the veteran Denmark international will face a fight for his spot from January onwards or whether the Bhoys wait until the campaign is over to source a contingency plan.

Rohit Sharma made an unbeaten 121 and Virat Kohli finished 74 not out to win by nine wickets after Harshit Rana’s 4 for 39 bowled Australia out for 236

Chopra sees a lot of IPL interest in Cooper Connolly
The majority of the SCG crowd got what they wanted as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, playing what will surely be their final matches in Australia, guided India to a consolation nine-wicket victory which avoided a series whitewash.Rohit, building on the fighting 73 he made in Adelaide, went to his 33rd ODI century from 105 balls, a ninth against Australia, while Kohli responded to his twin ducks to start the series with an unbeaten 74 in front of a packed stadium of 40,587, most of whom cheered their every move. The pair, who have more than 26,000 ODI runs between them, finished with an unbroken stand of 168 from 170 balls as Rohit brought the target in view with a flurry of boundaries before Kohli finished it with a delicate glide to deep third.Related

It was a dominant performance by India after Australia slipped dramatically from 183 for 3, losing 7 for 53 to be bowled out for 236. Matt Renshaw’s maiden ODI half-century had given them a solid platform, and all the top six made at least 23, but none could convert as Harshit Rana claimed a career-best 4 for 39 while India’s trio of spinners all bowled well.Rohit and Shubman Gill gave the chase an ideal platform but, even as the openers did what the team needed, the cheers for Kohli only grew louder. Shortly after Gill had deposited Cooper Connolly for six he edged Josh Hazlewood behind and the stage was set.Kohli made his way out of the dressing room to huge cheers, but those paled compared to a few moments later when he was off the mark first ball with a flick wide of mid-on. Kohli got into the spirit of the moment with a little smile and clenched fist.Virat Kohli celebrates his first run of the series after two ducks•AFP via Getty Images
From there, it was largely the Kohli seen on so many occasions – a straight drive off Mitchell Starc was a standout – although he was a little fortunate to survive an lbw appeal against Nathan Ellis on 36 which was millimeters from being overturned on DRS.One of the highlights of Rohit’s innings was an inside-out lofted drive for six against Adam Zampa and he later added another six off the legspinner with a slog sweep. The century came in understated fashion, a gentle drive to long-off, and a gentle wave of the bat around the ground.Despite the series being wrapped up, Australia resisted resting either Hazlewood or Mitchell Starc. They ended up only bowling 11 between them – Hazlewood was again excellent – but they weren’t brought back when the result was assured, perhaps a nod to what is to come. Ellis, who had been brought in for Xavier Bartlett, endured a difficult night.Mitchell Marsh had opted to set a target when the coin fell his way, making it 18 consecutive tosses India had lost in ODIs. Marsh and Travis Head, who became the fastest Australia men’s batter to 3000 ODI runs by innings, picked up the pace during the opening ten overs with Marsh pulling Prasidh Krishna’s first ball for six in an over that cost 13.Harshit Rana took career-best figures of 4 for 39•AFP via Getty Images
Australia were beginning to motor when Head spooned a catch to backward point although the run rate at that stage of more than six over would prove deceptive. Two balls later India could have had a second wicket after a mix-up left Matt Short stranded but Gill missed the stumps.Marsh’s promising innings ended the first ball after drinks, when he gave himself room against Axar Patel and was bowled. A relatively quiet period followed as Short and Renshaw worked into their innings. Short, who made a career-best 74 in Adelaide, had given himself a base when he swept Washington Sundar to square leg where Kohli held a stinging catch to the delight of many in the crowd.Renshaw did not hit a boundary until his 33rd delivery when he pulled Sundar powerfully through the leg side but kept the scoreboard ticking over so effectively that his fifty arrived from 48 balls.Alex Carey struggled for momentum and was on 8 off 23 balls when given a life, Krishna unable to hold a tough chance running in from long-on. He and Renshaw had given Australia a good base for acceleration when the pair fell in the space of four overs.Carey was spectacularly caught by Shreyas Iyer running back from backward point, taking the ball over his shoulder and slamming into the ground which caused him significant pain. During the drinks break which followed he left the field with the physio and during India’s chase was taken to hospital for further assessment.Renshaw, who is in the contention for a place in the Test squad for the Ashes, then fell lbw to Sundar as he advanced down the pitch with the DRS confirming the ball would have taken middle and leg.In Adelaide, Connolly and Mitch Owen put together a stand that turned the game firmly in Australia’s favour but there was no repeat here. Owen, staying leg side of the ball, edged a rising delivery from Rana to slip meaning the bowlers were exposed with more than 12 overs remaining and they were bowled out with 20 deliveries unused. But what the crowd had really come to see came next.

South Africa’s Marco Jansen is ranked fifth in the Test bowlers’ charts and second among the allrounders

Virat Kohli scored his 52nd ODI hundred in Ranchi against South Africa•AFP/Getty Images
India batter Virat Kohli has moved one spot up to fourth in ICC rankings for ODI batters while Pakistan allrounder Saim Ayub regained the top spot among T20I allrounders.Kohli scored his 52nd ODI century in Ranchi where India beat South Africa by 17 runs. He made 135 off 120 balls, and was involved in a 136-run partnership with Rohit Sharma, who is the No. 1-ranked ODI batter. Kohli now has 751 rating points and is only 32 behind Rohit’s 783.Ayub was the top-ranked allrounder in October before Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza overtook him. But Ayub’s Player-of-the-Match effort in the tri-series final in Rawalpindi, where Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by six wickets (Zimbabwe being the third team), helped him reclaim the top spot. He dismissed Sri Lanka’s top-scorer Kamil Mishara to return figures of 1 for 17 off four overs before scoring 36 off 33 to set the tone for Pakistan’s chase.Apart from Ayub, Pakistan legspinner Abrar Ahmed moved up to fourth in the T20I bowlers’ rankings led by Varun Chakravarthy, while India’s Kuldeep Yadav moved up to sixth in the ODI bowlers’ charts.Marco Jansen also gained in the Test rankings following South Africa’s clean sweep over India in the two-Test series. Following his 12 wickets in two games, Jansen moved to fifth in the Test bowlers’ charts while he gained four spots to be placed second in the Test allrounders rankings. His team-mate Simon Harmer, who took 17 wickets in the series, jumped up 13 places to be the 11th-ranked bowler.
Martin O’Neill has confirmed that Celtic’s clash with Dundee at Parkhead in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night will be his final game as the interim manager.
The experienced Northern Irish coach has revealed that Wilfried Nancy will take charge for the clash with Hearts at the weekend, ending his time in the dugout.
Speaking after the 2-1 win over Hibernian, O’Neill said: “He (Nancy) is the man that will be coming in. I thought it was over on Sunday, but there’s some paperwork still to be dealt with. Wednesday will definitely be my final game.
The interim boss has won six of his seven matches in his second spell with the Hoops, winning all four of his league games, and there have been several players who have been big winners from the change in manager.
The biggest winners from Martin O'Neill's time as interim Celtic manager
Callum Osmand, who is currently out with a hamstring injury, was one of the early winners from Brendan Rodgers’ departure, after he scored one goal in three games for O’Neill, having not played a single minute under the previous boss.
On the topic of strikers, Johnny Kenny was another winner of O’Neill’s tenure because the Ireland international scored four goals in the manager’s first four matches in charge, per Sofascore, which has shown that he can deliver quality at first-team level for the Hoops.
Reo Hatate has also improved under the interim boss. He has provided two goals and three assists in seven games for the Northern Irishman, per Sofascore, after a return of one goal and no assists in 13 games for Rodgers.
The biggest winner of O’Neill’s tenure, however, has been centre-back Auston Trusty, who has played every single minute of the seven games, having only made two appearances as a substitute in the league for the last manager this season.
Why Wilfried Nancy may drop Auston Trusty
Despite playing every single minute of the last seven Celtic games, the USA international is one of the players who could be on the chopping block when Nancy finally comes through the door.
Chalkboard
Football FanCast’s Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.
Trusty has been playing as a right-sided centre-back because of the injury to Cameron Carter-Vickers, and the French tactician may want a naturally right-footed option in that position.
If Nancy wants that natural balance at the back, whether that is by signing a centre-back in January or giving a chance to another player in the squad, then Trusty could have to compete with Liam Scales for a starting berth as the left-sided centre-back.

As you can see in the table above, the Ireland international has been the more reliable performer for the Scottish giants at the heart of the defence in the Premiership since the start of the 2024/25 campaign.
Trusty, who was hailed as a “powerful” player by Rodgers, made an error leading to a shot with a loose pass on Sunday, and that was his fifth in just 28 league games for the club.
He has also been dribbled past three more times than Scales, despite the Irishman playing 11 more games, which shows that opposition players find it easier to play against him than his fellow left-footed defender.
Trusty, to his credit, has been solid in his duels in the Premiership this season, winning 62% of his physical battles, per Sofascore, but his errors over the past 18 months or so and the fact that he is currently a left-footer playing on the right may come into consideration ahead of the January transfer window.
Nancy may want to bring in a naturally right-footed player to start games in that role, leaving Trusty and Scales to compete for one place. That is why he may end up dropping the American, who has been the biggest winner from O’Neill’s tenure, once he has a right-footed defender available to select.
His performances at Premiership level since his £6m move from Sheffield United suggest that Scales would be the better option for the new boss at left-centre-back, but we will have to wait and see how it plays out in reality.
Celtic flop who was "really shaky" v Hibs is the first player Nancy must bin
This Celtic flop is the first player who should be sold by incoming manager Wilfried Nancy in January.
